World Learning and World Bank Partnering to Better Engage Civil Society
WASHINGTON, DC (April 22, 2009) -- On April 22 World Learning and the World Bank's Civil Society Team are co-sponsoring an orientation to the World Bank Group for participants attending the Civil Society Policy Forum held to coincide with the Bank and International Monetary Fund 2009 Spring Meetings.
The session is part of World Learning's ongoing collaboration with the World Bank to increase the effectiveness of Bank and civil society dialog. Since 2006, World Learning has provided training to World Bank staff on working more effectively with civil society. In 2008 World Learning completed Strategies for Engaging Civil Society in World Bank Training Programs a studycommissioned by the Bank to analyze its training programs and provide recommendations for including civil society in these programs. World Learning's findings and recommendations were based on a survey of more than 1,350 Civil Society Organization (CSO) representatives worldwide, focus groups across all world regions, and interviews with several World Bank staff. Download the report here.
World Learning's partnership with the World Bank stems from the conviction that international donors and development agencies must actively engage civil society to promote accountability, sustainable development and good governance. For more information about the study, training or World Learning civil society and governance programming please contact civilsociety@worldlearning.org.
World Learning works globally to enhance the capacity and commitment of individuals, institutions, and communities to create a more peaceful and just world through education, training and exchange programs.
