Read the brochure that outlines the basic provisions of coverage in force and available to you.
Co-Pays vs Deductible
There are two ways in which to use the student insurance.
- If you are in New England and choose a doctor that is in the CCN network (Community Care Network, now First Health Group Corporation), you pay a $10.00 co-pay each visit.
- If you select a doctor that is not in the CCN network, you will make a $10.00 co-pay per visit and then a $50.00 deductible per incident will apply. You would also be responsible for any fees beyond Usual, Customary and Reasonable expenses that the doctor charges for the illness.
In Network vs Out-of –Network
In Network providers accept the SIT Student insurance plan. This means that all you are responsible for is a $10 co-pay each time that you see a doctor for any illness or accident.
If you choose an out of network provider you are responsible for $10.00 co-pay per visit, and then a $50 deductible per incident will apply.
Usual, Customary and Reasonable (UCR) charges -- Insurance companies determine a Usual, Customary and Reasonable fee for most medical services. They expect that healthcare providers will not charge in excess of the UCR rate. The student health insurance policy will not pay any more than the UCR rate. Therefore, students are responsible for any charge that is in excess of the UCR rate. Please note that this is only an issue when dealing with a non-CCN in-network provider. You are not responsible for this if you see an in-network provider. Most providers in Brattleboro are in the network.
