Exchange for Emerging Foreign Policy Leaders from Turkey – Spring 2008

The Foreign Policy Dialogue Among Emerging Leaders exchange program will bring to the U.S. 38 young grantees from Turkey to examine foreign policy issues in a cooperative context that fosters substantive dialogue with other countries. The project will provide useful tools for the Turkish grantees to analyze, understand, and address complex foreign policy issues. The curriculum will emphasize the need for a rational and well-balanced approach to international development as opposed to extremism and world visions that are marred by conspiracy theories. The project's objective is to empower the participants to become leaders who understand the importance of a vibrant civil society.

Exchange for Emerging Young Entrepreneurs from Peru – March 2008 – August 2009 (Proposed dates)

The World Learning Visitor Exchange Program will implement a practical and stimulating training and exchange program with Peru to educate 30 emerging young entrepreneurs in entrepreneurial thinking and business leadership skills to empower them to engage in business development. The group will represent diverse regions and ethnic groups in Peru (Quechua, Aymara and Afro-Latino). The World Learning program will increase the participants' understanding of how individual entrepreneurs create economic growth, strengthen professional ties between U.S. and Peruvian business organizations and provide an appreciation of American business practices and the rich diversity of American society. As the program's lead grantee and coordinator World Learning will design and manage the program. World Learning proposes to collaborate with a Peruvian NGO, the Consortium of Private Organizations for Development and Promotion of Micro and Small Businesses (COPEME), and with the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth.

The program will have four phases: a series of 2-day entrepreneurial training workshops in three diverse regions of Peru for up to 100 participants; two 3-week U.S. programs for a select group of 30 workshop participants; a post-training small grants program and implementation of action plans with mentor guidance; and country visits by up to 15 U.S. mentors and business hosts to learn from their Peruvian counterparts, offer additional training, evaluate and assist with action plans and complete the exchange. The proposed program will begin in March 2008 and end in August 2009.
