Experience the vibrancy of African-Brazilian culture in Bahia through song, dance, capoeira, and theater. Following your orientation, spend two weeks in the colonial city of Salvador working with trained professionals at an arts-based nonprofit organization. Using African dance, interpretive theater, drumming, and story-telling through song, you will work side by side with local teens to create an inspiring final performance focused on indigenous music and movement.

Community

Then enjoy Brazilian daily life by living with a welcoming host family for a week. Hone your Portuguese language skills through visits to the local market and discussions with your new friends and family. During your stay in the community of Lençois, learn the Brazilian folkloric Forro dance and practice the graceful capoeira, a Brazilian-Angolan martial art taught by the Corda Bamba Cultural Association. Your great adventure culminates with a week of travel through the visually stunning countryside of rural, tropical Bahia province.
