Unlocking the Potential to Address Critical Global Issues

World Learning provides education, exchange, and development programs that cultivate the global leadership and social innovation needed in a shrinking world. Our comprehensive portfolio of programs is enhanced by a worldwide network of hundreds of thousands of alumni, staff, partners, and friends, including Peace Corps founder Sargent Shriver and Nobel Peace Prize winners Wangari Maathai and Jody Williams.

World Learning occupies a unique position among international organizations.  Other education institutions either serve undergraduate or graduate students or professionals. Exchange organizations typically send American students abroad or bring international students to the United States. Similarly, international development organizations manage programs or they teach about development. World Learning is a leader in all of the above.

Inspiring Citizen Ambassadors
Our study abroad programs offer American high school and undergraduate students the chance to have immersive, life-transforming experiences in more than 70 countries.  The Experiment in International Living sends high school students abroad on dynamic summer programs that build leadership skills and enhance global awareness. SIT Study Abroad offers undergraduates academically-rich, semester and summer programs with opportunities for field research, while the International Honors Program provides comparative study on social justice and sustainability issues on multiple continents.

Preparing Global Leaders
Every year, thousands of emerging leaders from 140 countries visit the United States on International Exchange Programs managed by World Learning. Academic exchanges place undergraduate and graduate students in US universities nationwide. Study tours and training for international professionals connect them with US counterparts and strengthen their workplace skills and capacity to exert leadership at home. Thousands more participate in training programs offered by World Learning in their home countries or other nations.

Ensuring Sustainable Development
World Learning programs offer a strong link between international development teaching and practice. Our accredited SIT Graduate Institute offers master’s degrees, as well as certificate and professional programs, in international development theory and management. World Learning combines theory with practice with International Development Programs that prepare local leaders to effectively address critical issues such as poverty, HIV/AIDS, the marginalization of women and children, the global education crisis, and the need to strengthen civil society and government accountability.
