Parents Overview

Welcome to SIT Study Abroad! As parents, you may be exploring study abroad programs for the first time, visiting this site at the request of your student, or seeking details after a student has been accepted. This section is designed to help with all of these needs.
As students consider options for studying abroad, many questions arise for parents. We encourage parents to read through this information and talk to their student, and get comfortable with the following important issues: the reasons that their student wants to study abroad; the particular program structure; the location; health and safety, and communication in case of an emergency; financial planning; and ways in which parents can help prepare their students for their experience.
After you have looked through these pages, please explore the program-specific pages. These have information about program coursework, itineraries, faculty, and expectations.

If any questions are not answered here, we encourage parents to talk with their student and/or to contact SIT Study Abroad directly. Often questions come up that are specific to a student and/or program – in these cases, please do not hesitate to contact our office. SIT Study Abroad coordinators are happy to provide more detailed answers to your questions.
More information may be found in the Parents flyout menu to the left. Read about the Benefits of Study Abroad here.
